Maths @ OMS

Mathematics is important in everyday life and our aim at Olney Middle School is to give all children the ability to achieve and excel in Mathematics. We believe that by introducing new concepts using a ‘Small Steps’ approach the children can link ideas and concepts, leading to a deeper understanding. This leads to children being able to solve problems, reason, and work systematically and accurately. Lessons are taught using a ‘Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract’ approach to enable all children to experience hands on learning and to allow them to create and use clear models and images. Fluency skills, such as number facts and times tables, are embedded across the curriculum and practiced regularly to ensure children can use and apply this information in different areas of Mathematics.
